Any help with teen boys? Sorry Julie!

I gave my teenage son Julies book, but it really feels branded and oriented for girls.  Also, he's ADHD and that presents more challenges.  Any suggestions or resources?

Hello jvwood... Thanks for

Hello jvwood...

Thanks for your post!

Which Julie book did you give to your soon?

Julie == Julie Morgenstern?

Julie == Julie Morgenstern?  I haven't seen the book or books,  but I have watched the DVD ( http://www.amazon.com/Organizing-Inside-Out-Julie-Morgenstern/dp/B00062I... ).

Might help.  Didn't seem sexist to me and since I can pause it and rewind and all that, I think it might help people with ADHD (I have a mild sort of condition myself)

Captain, if he considers

Captain, if he considers something by Julie Morgenstern to be effeminate, you may wish to get him Sean Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens as an alternative.  Also, I don't know if this would work or not, but if you're trying to help him get organized, you may wish to simply take him to a store that has good organization products (I personally love Office Depot and Office Max) and tell him he can get whatever he needs to organize up to a certain amount and tell him how much you're willing to spend.  That way he can put his own system together and do what he likes without breaking your wallet.  You could even sit down with him a few days before you go and let him know what you're thinking about doing so that he can start planning and putting things together so he has a better idea of what he wants by the time you take him shopping.  I find that just looking at pictures of organized rooms helps me figure out what I would like to do, so maybe find some pictures of an organized "boy's" bedroom and see what ideas he gets from that (this would help if your son's a visual learner...can you tell I'm a teacher?)  You could also do the same when buying him a planner...at the Franklin Covey store or at franklincovey.com.  I hope this helps!

Awesome feedback,

Awesome feedback, HerrRoe2006- I think the visual aspect of this is a wonderful idea.

Hi Jvwood-   The book is

Hi Jvwood-

The book is actually not geared specifically toward girls--...though yours is not the first teen boy we've heard about that doesn't want to be seen carrying a book with a picture of a girl on the front (albeit that pretty girl is my daughter :)....

Some Moms have worked around that by covering the book with contact paper or a book cover....Once your son is reading the text--he'll discover plenty of boys stories inside.

Cheers,

Julie
